Fantasy Golf is great fun to play whether against the community or just with your mates, and what could be more fun than coming out on top and scooping the cash prizes?

The PGA Tour Fantasy Fourball game on i-pools, with guaranteed prizes, runs every Thursday, and there's daily pools every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday for each Round too.

We'll be entering as FairwayWedge every week based on our weekly tips and trying to win their monthly Hall of Fame prizes too! Having tipped up Bubba Watson as our main pick at 25/1 in last week's Northern Trust Open, we're bang in form!

These articles will be designed to help give you a competitive edge by applying our stats based approach to pools betting.

We highlighted three key stats in our Honda Classic article earlier in the week. Those were; Bogey Avoidance, Greens in Regulation (GIR), and Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green. We will bearing all those in mind and thinking about how to best apply these stats to the i-pools points system this week.

Points are awarded according to final finishing position as follows: 100 points for 1st place; 50 points for 2nd to 5th; 25 points for 6th to 10th; 10 points for 11th to 25th; 3 points for 26th to 50th and 1 point for only making the cut (but outside top 50).

In addition, each player has been given a 'multiplier'. Any points scored by a player will be multiplied by the number in the brackets after their name.

There are four categories in this pool: US Favourites, US Contenders, Europeans, and Rest of the World. Here’s our thoughts and picks for each category:

US Favourite

Two names in this list stood out for us on first viewing. Patrick Reed's form in this event is trending upwards reading T58-T24-T7. He ranks in the top 20 for GIR and Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green and has the best stats on the Tour for Bogey Avoidance.

Webb Simpson, with his 2x multiplier was also worth considering - he ranks 10th this season in GIR, 15th in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and T11th in Bogey Avoidance. - but his late withdrawal means Reed is our man.

Our Pick: Patrick Reed

US Contenders

Again, we have whittled this group down to two strong picks. Daniel Berger made the playoff in this event last year and is ranked 2nd in our key stat Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green. PGA National is such a tricky course so we want to be confident that our pick can go the distance and be a reliable ball striker.

Our second pick in this category is a previous winner of this event, Russell Henley. This is a windy course and the forecast shows expected 20mph winds pre-cut. From the available group Henley has played well on linksy, seaside tracks. He won the Sony Open in 2013 too and we think that his proven track record as a strong wind player could be worth his weight in gold here.

Our Picks: Daniel Berger and Russell Henley

Europeans

This is a tough group to whittle down. There are four players that tick a lot of boxes for us and while i-pools lets you select as many picks as you like and add them as permutations (or multiple entries) to the pool, we'll try to keep to a maximum of two picks per group.

Our first pick is a slam dunk. Rory McIlroy is the bookies favourite to win. He’s won this event before in 2012 and won The Open Championship more recently which is another windy course. Don’t be put off by the 1x multiplier, Rory has exactly what it takes to do well here.

Russell Knox is our other pick in this group. He has a 2x multiplier and we think that must only be due to his poor start to 2016. If we look a little further back, he had a great finish to 2015 and in his previous two run outs at the Honda Classic were T3-T2. In short, he loves this venue, and with a top 25 ranking for GIR, Bogey Avoidance and Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green he can’t be ignored.

Honourable mentions go to Paul Casey and Padraig Harrington who both have very solid Strokes gained: Tee-to-Green rankings. We wouldn’t put you off either of those picks especially with the 2x multipliers available.

Our picks: Rory McIlroy and Russell Knox

Rest of the World

A decent selection of players in this pool but only one name stands out for us against the rest.

Camilo Villegas is a previous winner back in 2010 and he started like a train last week, finishing as first round leader in the Northern Trust Open. We’re hoping this is an indication that he is coming back into form. He’s only one of two players since 2007 to finish double digits under par (the other being Rory) and so we’re selecting the Colombian’s proven pedigree over this windy course coupled with the 2x multiplier as the sole pick from this group.

Our pick: Camilo Villegas

Thanks for reading, we hope you found this article useful and we look forward to playing with you on i-pools. If you have any comments or feedback we’d love to hear it, or of course if you have any wins of the back of our write ups, it would be great to hear from you.
